I will attach a first Leipzig picture from a photo album of my father for your forum page.

This picture was subtitled with: "die Engländer kommen" --> TheTommies are coming.
Shooting in November 1940, in the south of Leipzig during one of the first air raids.

that is a wonderful and dramatic photo of the air war over Leipzig. are there many more photos in your fathers album showing leipzig in the war years ?

Today I will attach a second Leipzig picture from the photo album of my father.
This one a photo from 1939. It was taken on 1st of May, the so-called "National Day of Work" at the exhibition center in the south of the city. As you can see well, this day was organized by the Nazi government and not by the union!

Hello Ian - nice slide from "Ringmessehaus"

I have also some colour slides.
One from 1941, I think it was in the spring time, shows aslo a part from the Tröndlinring in view towards the main station,
left: the building Tröndlinring 3 and 4,
right: an interesting sign "Zum öffentlichen Luftschutzbunker" ('To the public air raid shelter')
and in the middle of the picture drives a tram line 8 with negative dark number plate (also for the air raid)
and to the left of the air raid sign, the business house with name "Goldene Kugel" ('Golden Ball').

fantastic Leipzig photo and color slide Mister Stein !.

I also have some wonderful color slides 1942 showing the Hauptbahnhof in my collection.
I have only made one or two scans from this collection and all still in the original glass frames (Foto Winter Leipzig paper frames.
But when I get time, I am going to carefully take them out of the old frames and scan them with my privatre epson v700 and SilverFast.

a little tip, you can add the link to your photo website Mister Stein to your user signature in (user settings) then more people will visit your starting photo site !
Also if you make some of the text in english, more people from around the world will visit. just a little helpful tips for you !

this time coming from Dresden street with Grassii museum behind the photographer and pointing towards Augustusplatz (Leipzig) showing the new Universitätskomplexes am Augustusplatz on the left. and in the middle the old Paulinerkirche (this church was destroyed by the communists in the DDR)

I have three notes:
1. ... coming from Dresden street ... --> exactly from "Grimmaischer Steinweg" (stone way to Grimma)
2. The colour slide is very interesting. I suspect that the picture was taken with a tele lense. And therefore I think it could be a professional publicity photo from the spring of 1942. Also because some things are in a optimal position - trams, policeman, cars, buildings ...
3. On the right-hand side of the Paulinerkirche is the building with the café Felsche, with a café balcony to Augustusplatz. Unfortunately it was destroyed in December 1943. Now on these place you can find a building with an Italian restaurant.

To the Café Felsche

I have found some b/w pictures from my father with the street edge Goethe / Grimmaische street and left-hand side with the café Felsche (pict. 01).
The first two pictures are from spring time 1939.
They show the burned Jewish business house Bamberger & Hertz, fired by the Nazi mob in November 1938.

On pict. 2 you can see one of the first traffic lights in Leipzig. One traffic light in the middle of the streets and notice the tram from the right to the left side.
In this time trams are driven in all directions:
from Augustusplatz to Grimmaische street and crossing these line along Goethe street.

The third picture was taken two weeks ago also on this corner with the italian restaurant on the left-hand side and the Bamberger & Hertz building on the right.

when i saw this slide for sale originally on ebay, it was sold as berlin and i honestly didnt have a good look at it.
i think i missed out on a wonderful leipzig farbdia... pitty.
