Hi,

Found this Dodge WC21 photo in a drawer.

Some of the writing I can decypher but some not. The last two lines contain 191 and 217
what do they signify.

Can somone fully translate this for me.
All help greatly appreciated.

Larry

Hi Larry:

A guess:

Jimmy Mc (?)Alexander
In a Command & Recon Car
Jimmy weighs 191 from 217 lbs.
April 16, 1942.

My assumption is Jimmy used to weigh too much and is now much slimmer due to his military service or something like that.

Cheers
Bill

I agree with Bill. Nice photo Larry. What else you got hiding in the drawers?

Thanks Bil, much appreciated. Looks like he still has some way to go to get to his normal weight:D

I did a search for the number on the bonnet (W 2021536) and found that W=War Department and first two numbers (20) denoted Reccon.
The white star was found on US vehicles in England and the SE Pacific.

The letter "F " inside the star could denote Field Artillery.

Mike,

The photo was with a lot I bought a few years ago. I don't collect this type of photo so if anyone wants to do a trade for a German vehicle
photo I would be very happy.

Cheers,
Larry

Hi Larry:

Just to fill in a few gaps, your photo is one of the 1941 Pattern Dodges.
To the best of my knowledge, none of this Pattern ever got sent into combat after Pearl Harbour
although they would have been on site in Hawaii and the Phillipines and a few other places at the
outbreak of the war.

I have no specific knowledge of tactical signs/numbers but I agree that all of the Recon vehicles I have
seen have a 20 as the first numbers after the W. I do believe that what you call an "f" inside
the star is actually a "3" and most likely indicates the platoon or company number.

The 1941 Pattern Dodges were superceded in 1942 and onwards by the ubiquitous "Beep" 3/4 ton version,
some of which were still in use in developing countries as late as the 1960s.

Cheers

Bill

Hi Bill,

I looked at that star fom every angle and couldn't see a "3".
Now it is so obvious. Funny how the brain works sometimes.

Thanks for the extra information. I believe all Jeep numbers started with "20" as well.

Cheers,
Larry
