This is my first, oldie but a goodie.
Fantastic color slide of a German infantry division moving through the welcome gates of the soviet union 1941.

here is a fresh scan from today.
notice the completly turned over russian tank on the right, i cant imagine what kind of impact that needed.

And the German motorcycle left of the tank!

a quick question ?
when the german aircraft or artilery or even panzers did this kind of damage on the roads to moscow, what did the germans use to clear all this monster wreckage ?

Other tanks were used to tow tanks, heavy trucks could also be used (the halftrack trucks used for artillery) or tractors. Coming days I will scan some pics, I got a pic of a burned and destroyed tractor.

I dont think I have seen too many photos showing in action, the panzers knocking over the destroyed russian tanks.

your first color photo with the entrance with stalins and lennins head is fantastic ian.
never saw some thing like that before and in color !!

An entry shot of sorts. Well more of a what was left behind.

Another entry of sorts from a slightly damaged negative. This time whatever transport worked. It must have been an eye opening sight for the children, I presume, to watch one army retreat followed by another advancing. History in the making.

Mobile troops on paper, but probably not in reality. 35mm negatives in poor condition.

Last. A very late entry. Mobility shelved. Scan from photo set.

Hi, the gate is not a boarder gate I believe because A- border gates were rather uncommon in the Union an B- the slogans say nothing about it being a border construction, or anything about crossing a border at all- the left one praises the 23rd anniversary of the "great October socialist revolution" while the right one says something about great teaching of two guys between the slogans, but the text is too blurred to read. I think the gate being typical kolkhoz style architecture could serve as an entrance for tractor service station or just as possible a local fairground where mass festivities would have taken place in October '41 and all the administration had to do is change one digit in the age of the revolution. Typical soviet way of maintaining such things.
